Mumbai-bound flight suffers bird hit; makes emergency landing

A Mumbai-bound Indigo Airlines flight, carrying 101 persons, made an emergency landing at the city airport here today after a bird hit the airplane after its take off, Airport officials said.

"A bird-hit incident was reported with the Ahmedabad to Mumbai Indigo flight 6E- 244 with 95 passengers and the six crew-members on board soon after the take off from airport here," Ahmedabad Airport Director R K Singh told PTI.

The pilot reported the bird-hit incident and flight was allowed to land back at the Ahmedabad airport, he said.

All the passengers are safe and majority of them have boarded another flight provided by Indigo Airlines from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, Singh said.

The official said that since it was a natural incident, no inquiry will be conducted.

Two rotors of the plane were found damaged in the incident, another airport official said.

This is the first 'bird- hit' incident near the airport this year. Ninteen bird-hit incidents were reported in the year 2010, while 18 in 2011, 13 in 2012 and three in 2013, he said.
