Air Force Hospital in Bangalore adjudged best

Defence Minister A K Antony presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the Hospital Commandant Air Vice Marshal A K Behl here, a Defence Ministry release said.

The Command Hospital of Army's Eastern Command at Kolkata was adjudged the Second Best during the year and its Commandant Major General Y S Sarma received the trophy.
Army chief General Deepak Kapoor, Air chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, Secretary Ex-Servicemen Welfare Neelam Nath were present.
Describing medical services as the backbone of the armed forces, Antony said the medical field units should be modernised and adequate staff provided to make them efficient.
In this context, he said some of the buildings located in the field units were very old and these should be demolished to pave the way for new buildings there.

He complimented the Armed Forces Medical Services for providing the services to the people of Sri Lanka during the recent military offensive against the LTTE there.
The Armed Forces Medical Services provide comprehensive medical care to the Army, Navy and the Air Force spanning the entire spectrum of preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to serving personnel, ex-servicemen and their families.
