Real for a change

Zee Kannada is launching a very emotional, sentimental and soul-stirring talk show Baduku Jatakaabandi. The show hosted by the much admired actress Malavika, will be telecast from May 25, every Monday to Friday at 7 pm, on Zee Kannada.

Baduku Jatakabandi is a reality show of kinds, but it is all about real people, real events, real emotions and real judgments. As the title suggests, the programme is about life that is metaphorically compared to a bullock cart.

The title is inspired by a famous poem from DVG’s Mankutimmana Kagga, which goes on to say Baduku jatakaabandi, vidhi adara saaheba (‘Life is a bullock cart and fate is its charioteer’)

Baduku Jatakaabandi aims to bring to light and fearlessly expose hitherto unmentionable and taboo subjects such as homosexuality, widow remarriage, adultery, physical and emotional abuse at the work place, domestic violence, missing people, medical negligence, adolescent issues, etc and it also acts as a redress forum for many of the victims.

The show will also feature stories of celebrities occasionally. The objective of the show is to stir the emotions, awaken consciences, create a tremendous impact and set the viewers thinking, so as to get them to speak out.

The host of the show, Malavika Avinash said, “This programme strives to unfold real incidents that have occurred in the lives of the people and is a platform for all those who want to share their emotional and heart wrenching tales without any reservations. The show personally is a challenging task for me as everything here is real and not acting.”
“In each episode a specific case is chosen and the issue is established. Once the issue is established, those involved with it will be featured on the show. It gives audience a chance to stand witness to the many faces of truth and reality,” says S Balaraj, Programme Director, Miditech.

He adds further, “The show also attempts to provide solutions such as counseling, reunions, etc. It promises to stand by and listen; it promises hope and is an earnest attempt to make a difference in the society.”

Connection between past and present

Aditya Redij, famously known as Raghav, Ammaji’s son on the show, Naa Aana Iss Des Laado, is not just an actor but also a social worker. Before joining the show, he was a social worker and has also participated in a Youth Exchange Programme where nine participants from all over India and nine from Canada were taken to Stanford. He was supposed to stay with the families there and used to work in farms. On asked about the experience of staying with poor families over there he stressed, “It was a wonderful experience as we all enjoyed and worked together and also the lifestyle over there was quite different. It was totally a new and memorable experience.”

After staying there for more than a month, he came back to India and continued with the same – helping the poor. He even stayed in with the families in the rural parts of Haryana, and to his surprise, the story of Laado is also based in Haryana. He stayed there for three months with those rural people. He used to teach in schools and even taught the women about their social rights.

Later he came down to Mumbai and took part in some fashion shows. And when he got this show, he was surely excited to be a part of this as it gives out a message. He quotes, “I am actually happy to be a part of this show, as I know such evil practices are prevalent in rural parts of India, as I have been there and stayed and understood them. I think these kinds of shows will surely help improve the condition of our society.” That’s a good message you are giving to the people out there. Keep going Aditya.

Slices from history

Watch the documentary drama Auschwitz - The Nazis and the Final Solution - Orders and Initiatives on May 25 at 10 pm on Fox History and Entertainment.

Auschwitz is the site of the largest mass murder in the history of the world. Yet, few know about the true and surprising history of this most infamous place, or how it fitted into the Nazi’s overall plan for the mass extermination of the Jews — what they called the Final Solution.

Orders and Initiatives covers disturbing testimonies from prisoners including those who witnessed the first gassings at Auschwitz. And, for the first time on television, there is an interview with a Slovak perpetrator who knowingly helped in sending his Jewish compatriots to their death.
