In what is said to be a road rage incident, a 22-year-old youth was shot at by his neighbour following a heated exchange over parking his scooter in outer Delhi’s Narela on Sunday afternoon.

While the victim is being treated for gunshot injuries to his abdomen and hand, the accused managed to flee the spot before the police arrived. A senior police officer said they have launched a manhunt for him.

Anuj lives with his family in Bankner village in Narela and runs a grocery shop on the ground floor of his house. He had returned home from the local market at about 3:45 pm on Sunday and parked his scooter in the lane outside his house.

He then went on to speak to someone over phone while standing near the parked scooter. It was reported that a speeding motorcyclist rammed into his scooter from behind.

“The tail lamp glass of Anuj’s scooter was broken due to the impact. Anuj disconnected his call and checked his scooter for damages. The two were involved in an argument over the accused riding carelessly and Anuj parking his scooter at the wrong place,” said a police officer.

The altercation soon turned violent and the two were involved in a scuffle. The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar, allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot at Anuj. The bullet pierced Anuj’s hand to lodge itself in his abdomen.

While the rider fled, Anuj was rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to Lok Nayak Hospital. His condition is stated to be out of danger.

While Mukesh continues to be on the run, he has been booked under the Arms Act and for attempt to murder. The presence of a weapon on Mukesh has forced the police to probe if he has been involved in more crimes.
