BJP trashes Vishwas' allegation, Cong asks him to name the MP

Last Updated 30 August 2014, 10:04 IST

BJP today rubbished AAP leader Kumar Vishwas' claim that a BJP MP offered that he would be made Chief Minister of Delhi if he joined the saffron party to help it form government, while Congress asked him to reveal the identity of the parliamentarian.

Reacting strongly, Delhi BJP Chief Satish Upadhyay accused the AAP leader of making baseless allegations for political gain and challenged him to provide proof, if he has any to substantiate his claim.

"It seems Arvind Kejriwal has written a new script for Vishwas. He should reveal the name of the BJP MP who had made the offer. This kind of baseless allegations have been made by Kejriwal also in the past and I think Vishwas is following his path," Upadhyay said.

Vishwas has claimed that a BJP MP had tried to lure him to join BJP by offering him the Chief Minister's post. The AAP leader, however, did not name the MP and said he did not wish to pursue the matter as he had declined the offer.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Vishwas' statement should be looked more with entertainment value than with political value."

The Congress ridiculed Vishwas' allegations as the party said  AAP leaders were making such charges to stay politically relevant. The party asked Vishwas to reveal the name of the BJP MP who made the offer.

"The AAP usually conducts sting operation before making allegations. So if the party has any recording of the conversation, then they should make it public," said Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma.
