Actress Sanjjanaa has become bolder in choosing her roles. She is playing the role of a ghostbuster in a Telugu project titled Avanu-2. “It’s not a run-of-the-mill ghost story. It is a little hi-tech where this ghostbuster uses a gadget to detect ghosts. The gadget was the director’s idea and was made especially for this film. I think it’s a very innovative way of presenting the ancient tradition of spotting spirits,” explains
Sanjjanaa.

Sanjjanaa further states that she didn’t think twice when she was offered this role. “This ghostbuster is well-informed, educated and well-versed in detecting spirits. We’ve used technology quite effectively in this context,” she states.

While she has a couple of Kannada and Telugu projects in hand, Sanjjanaa has also bagged a meaty role in the Malayalam film Badarul Munerr Husnul, in which she plays a Muslim girl. About her role, she says, “It’s an intense love story and I wear a ‘hijab’ throughout the movie. I am covered from head to toe. A lot of people asked me if I felt uncomfortable in the costume but I must say that this role is the closest to my heart.” She further states that the film does well in upholding Muslim traditions. “Muslim women are loyal and devoted to their families. My role is similar to Shraddha Kapoor’s character in Aashiqui 2.”

She has also signed another film in Kannada called ‘Cinema My Darling’ in which she plays an item girl. “The story traces the life of an item girl who is modern, loud and outgoing on stage but in reality, she is a simple person. It will be a challenge to portray extreme emotions for this role,”she adds.

As for her other Sandalwood projects, Sanjjanaa plays an NRI girl in ‘Rebel’ but looks like this movie has had a delayed release. “You should ask Aditya (the lead actor in ‘Rebel’) the reason for that,” she quips. She dons the role of a slum-dweller in ‘Mandya to Mumbai’. “It is one of the toughest roles that I’ve played till date. We shot in real slums and there were times when we had trouble controlling the crowd. But it was quite a rewarding experience,” she adds. Her next project, ‘Bangalore 23’, features ‘Karnataka Bulldozers’ and Sanjjanaa plays the love interest of Dhruva, the hearing-impaired player of the team and in the words of Sanjjanaa is a “brilliant co-star.”
