Pension age limit relaxed for transgenders

The social security wing of the revenue department  has reduced the age limit for seeking Rs 500 pension from the State government for transgenders from the present 30 years to 25 years.

According to a GO, transgenders in the age group of 25 to 65 years can claim the pension under the Maitri scheme. Revenue Minister V Srinivasa Prasad said as many as 18,000 transgenders will benefit from the scheme. A delegation of transgenders met Prasad at his office in Vidhana Soudha on Friday. Prasad said the government will accord the priority to them while allotting houses under the Ashraya scheme.
