Dulha Mil Gaya: Bollywood divas tie the knot in 2009

Last Updated 25 December 2009, 08:30 IST

While many like Shilpa Shetty decided to keep the ceremony private, others like Amrita Arora invited the media to be a part of their special day.

But, intimate or extravagant, the Bollywood weddings made headlines around the year.
First to walk down the aisle in 2009 was actress Ayesha Takia who wed longtime boyfriend, hotelier Farhan Azmi on March 1, 2009 in a white themed wedding.

The couple had originally planned to marry in December 2008, but the wedding was delayed due to the Mumbai attacks.

Three days later, actress Amrita Arora got married to boyfriend Shakeel Ladak in a Christian ceremony with sister Mallaika Arora Khan and best friend Kareena Kapoor playing bridesmaids.

The celebrations that followed were a three-day affair and the gala reception that followed was attended by the A-list of Bollywood including Shahrukh and Gauri Khan, Sanjay and Manyata Dutt among others.

But the biggest surprise came from Shilpa Shetty who changed her plans for a 2010 wedding to get hitched to NRI millionaire beau Raj Kundhra.

The couple got engaged in a private ceremony at his residence on October 24, 2009 and the ring that Kundra gave his lady love was reportedly worth a whopping Rs 3 crore.
The jewelery tycoon had popped the question on Diwali, but the celebration was a "bittersweet" experience for Shilpa as her sister, actress Shamita Shetty, was not part of it.
But Shamita, who was participating in the reality show 'Big Boss', made it to the grand wedding on November 22, after deciding to quit the programme to be a part of her sister's big day.

The couple finally got married in a private ceremony in Khandala on November 22 at Shipa's friend-cum-business partner Kiran Bawa's bungalow.
The marriage combined the rituals of the Mangalorean bride and the Punjabi groom, with the vows being exchanged according to South Indian tradition while pre-wedding rituals like the Mehendi and Sangeet were conducted as per Punjabi tradition.

The guest list was restricted to family members and close friends of the couple.
Designer Tarun Tahiliani designed the 34-year-old bride's wedding costume. Two days later the couple hosted a grand reception in Mumbai for the film fraternity. Shilpa again chose to wear Tahiliani, a gold saree, which earned her both boquets and brickbats from the fashion fraternity.

The reception was a grand affair with some of the biggest names in the industry including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan in attendance.
Bollywood's 'Khallas girl' Isha Koppikar got married in a simple ceremony to her restaurateur boyfriend Timmy Narang on November 29, 2009.

Isha got married at the ISKCON Temple in Juhu in traditional Maharashtrian style and later in the evening the couple hosted a reception at the Narang House which was attended by friends from Bollywood.
Supermodel Jesse Randhawa recently tied the knot with choreographer Sandip Soparkkar. The couple, who had been together for over five years, got married at the ISKCON temple in Mumbai.

While 2009 was the year many Bollywood beauties tied the knot, 2010 promises to see quite some bachelors settling down.
'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' star Imran Khan has announced his enagagement to girlfriend Avantika Malik and so has Neil Nitin Mukesh who plans to tie the knot with girlfriend Priyanka.
