Last Updated 22 September 2014, 19:35 IST

An alert passenger saved the life of a BMTC bus driver and scores of passengers when he noticed the driver in discomfort and stopped the bus on Monday.

The BMTC officers said 28-year-old Renukaprasad, who was driving a Volvo bus on Monday afternoon, had a chest pain. Devaraju, the passenger, who was sitting in the front seat, noticed a visibly uncomfortable Prasad and asked him about it.

When Prasad told him he had pain in his chest, Devaraju told him to stop the bus and asked all the passengers to alight, near Wilson Garden around 1:15 pm. The driver was then taken to St Martha's hospital where doctors conducted an ECG test.

The reports were normal and it turned out the driver had gastric trouble which caused the pain.
