Cows, camels rescued from slaughter

The City police rescued several camels and cows on their way to slaughterhouses on Sunday.

According to the police, around nine camels and more than 100 cows were rescued and sent to various animal shelters in the City. The police acted on a tip-off received from the public and by various NGOs working for the protection of animals. The animals were being transported to slaughterhouses in Shivaji Nagar, Banashankari and Tannery Road, the police informed.

The police are investigating as to how the camels were transported into the City, as desert animals are banned in the City. Also, they are not allowed to be slaughtered in the name of sacrifice. Cases have been registered at police stations and further investigation is in progress.
