State Congress president G Parameshwara said on Thursday that he did nurture the ambition to become deputy chief minister, but the decision was left to the party high command.

Speaking to reporters at Sambra airport here, Parameshwara said, “I nurture many ambitions and to become deputy chief minister is one among them.” Expansion of cabinet and filling up of vacant berths was the sole discretion of the chief minister. He stated that the party was not interfering in the running of the government and that he would not comment on it.

Talks were held by him with the chief minister regarding party and government programmes, Parameshwara said.

On the statement of Digvijay Singh, State incharge of the party, that the party had given Chief Minister Siddaramaiah powers to appoint chairpersons to boards and corporations, Parameshwara said that the statement of the general secretary becomes direction to the State Congress and that he would not comment on it.

He said that legislators, defeated candidates in elections and leaders who have worked for the party would be considered for appointments to boards and corporations.

List of names

The State party has asked for a list of 10 names from each of the Assembly constituencies, before names are finalised for nominations, Parameshwara said.

Reports from 35 constituencies were yet to be received. Names of chairpersons for boards and corporations would be announced after clearance from the high command, he said.
