A 21-year-old youth was shot in the neck by three men on a motorcycle for resisting a robbery in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar on Monday.

The victim and his father supply milk to Mother Dairy booths and were unloading milk containers from a vehicle when they were attacked, police said.

The victim has been identified as Rajesh Kumar who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district and lives with family in west Delhi’s Khayala.

Police said he is undergoing treatment at the AIIMS trauma centre.
“Rajesh was with his father Bhagan when the incident took place around 5.30 am in Paschim Puri Pocket-1,” said Ranvir Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (West).
As per the daily schedule, Bhagan and Rajesh left home at 4 am and had reached Paschim Puri Pocket-1 for one of the last stops for the day.

Bhagan told Deccan Herald that he was unloading the milk containers outside a Mother Dairy booth when he was approached by the three man.

“The three men told me to hand over cash, but I told them that I was not carrying any. They then checked my pockets and did not find any cash,” Bhagan said.

Soon, the men lost patience and whipped out country-made pistols.
“They started thrashing me and were checking the vehicle for cash and other valuables when Rajesh also came there from a Mother Dairy booth,” Bhagan added.

Seeing his father being hit, Rajesh intervened and tried to overpower the accused.
“Rajesh succeeded in catching one of the accused, but his accomplice opened fire. One shot was fired by the attackers, which hit Rajesh in the neck,” Bhagan said.

Rajesh collapsed after which the three accused fled from the spot on a motorcycle. They, however, left a country-made pistol on the spot.Bhagan informed police and took a profusely bleeding Rajesh to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, from where he was referred to AIIMS.

He has undergone an emergency surgery, and his condition is stated to be critical.
A case of attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been filed with Madipur police station.Bhagan told police that he had seen the attackers.
Police have checked CCTV footage to identify the accused but none of them has been identified so far.
