Woman SI caught 'accepting bribe'

A woman sub-inspector was arrested by the Lokayukta police for allegedly accepting a bribe on Thursday evening. The accused is Shyamala Devi, SI attached to Ulsoorgate Women’s police station.

The police said the complainant Syed Sidgatulla had approached the police station after his wife lodged a complaint against him. Police said the sub-inspector had threatened to register an FIR. When Sidgatulla requested her not to register the FIR, the SI allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000. Not willing to pay, Sidgatulla lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police.

On Thursday evening, a trap was laid and the SI was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the police station. The accused has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
