Skill devt programmes are need of hour: MP

Rajya Sabha Member Rajeev Chandrashekar has said that India’s competitiveness in the future depends on physical infrastructure and skills among the youth.

Speaking after laying foundation stone to the skill development block at Srikrishna Balanikethana here on Friday, the MP said that skill development enhances employment opportunities. It also helps in the growth of a country. “We are lagging behind in imparting life skills among the youth. We are still following the education laid down by the British. Compared to China, we are far behind in imparting skill development training.”
The skill development project should be sustained and encouraged throughout the country.

He lauded Pejawar seer’s passion for children. Children are future of the country and they need a dignified future.

Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji said that the block is constructed at a cost of Rs four crore and the monthly maintenance expense will be around Rs two lakh.
He said Rs 40 lakh was utilised in Moaist -affected  areas covering Shimoga and Augumbe to provide basic infrastructure facilities. An education centre is built at Hubli on 10 acre land. The government has sanctioned two acre of land to construct a hospital in Bangalore.

He said the skill development block would be exclusively utilised to engage youth in self employment programmes, he added.

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the present education system in India has failed to offer employment opportunities which ensure livelihood. The skill development programmes are need of the hour, which enable the training programme through which an individual can earn decent living. The skill development  programme can be of immense help in rural areas.

The Minister said that there should be special schools for school dropouts.
“If Udupi is included in the Smart city project of the Central government, then funds will be released for the development of the district. Pejawar seer should recommend for the inclusion of Udupi in Smart city project.”
