A 16-year-old boy was recently arrested in connection with the rape of an SSLC student in Banaswadi. The suspect has been identified as Somashekhar, a resident of Doddabanaswadi.
According to police, Somashekhar, a construction worker, is the victim’s neighbour. In her complaint, the victim told the police that he visited her house whenever she was alone, and gave her juice laced with sedatives.
Later he would rape her, she said in the complaint. Somashekhar had reportedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed his acts, said the police. Apart from booking him for rape, the police invoked sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and arrested him.
