'Expedite probe into harassment in gurukula'

It may be mentioned here that Surekha Hegde (name changed), had lodged complaint with Sagar DySP against Jagadish Sharma, in-charge of the gurukula alleging that the latter had sexually harassed her. The complaint was transferred to Hosanagar police station where a case has been registered against Jagadish Sharma.

Briefing a press conference in the City on Tuesday, Veena Hegde has expressed displeasure that the police who are being pressurised by local BJP politicians are delaying the investigation.

Instead of sacking Jagadish Sharma, the Mutt has promoted him from Pradhana Acharya to Chancellor of gurukula after the complaint was lodged. Veena said that she had to make the issue public as the persons who belonged to Mutt tried to misinterpret the incident. She demanded that culprit Jagadish Sharma should apologise her daughter in public. “I made the issue public to avoid other girls from being subjected to similar traumatic experience,” she said.

Activists of People’s Union of Civil Liberties, DSS and Komu Souharda Vedike who were present at the press meet, have said that a public struggle will be launched demanding justice for the victim.
