Last Updated 04 November 2014, 17:23 IST

The ambitious project of a government hospital in Hebri is in ruins as the work on the hospital building has stopped abruptly.

The then MLA Gopal Bhandary had strived to sanction the Government Community hospital to Hebri. But, the work under National Rural Health Mission, department of Health, Government of Karnataka at a cost of Rs 3.40 crore, has not been carried out properly.

Many works including rooms, hall, wards and roof are pending from a long time. The construction work, which was initiated by KHRDP, was marred by inordinate delay and has ended up in stoppage. The project was meant to cater to the health needs of the Naxal infested area of Hebri and the surrounding areas. Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said that the KHRDP will be responsible for the construction work, till it becomes complete as the land has been handed over to them.

However, action will be taken after looking into the matter, the minister said.

KHRDP Official Devraj said that the work of Rs 1.50 crore has been carried out and a payment of around Rs 90 lakh to be made for the contractors is pending. The contractors are told to carry on with the work as the funds will be released in installments, he said.
Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Member Mudradi Manjunath Poojary visited the place recently and inspected the work. He has told of raising the issue in Zilla Panchayat meeting.

Also, Karkala former MLA Gopal Bhandary has told of bringing the matter to the attention of the government.
