Steeped in reality

Director, lyricist and actor Yogaraj Bhat has always excelled in multi-tasking and says that he made some of his best movies when he was under tremendous pressure. Given his success in Sandalwood, it was only a matter of time before he would head to Bollywood. Though his first directorial in Bollywood is taking its own time, Yogaraj says he is in no hurry.

In his current project, Vaastu Prakara, Yogaraj delves into a very sensitive subject — vaastu. The story reflects his thoughts on astrology and how people blindly believe in it. “Vaastu is pretty popular. It rules people’s judgement and influences almost all the important decisions. Does it really exist? This is what I have captured in the film,” explains Yogaraj.

The dubbing for Vaastu Prakara has started and the film, says Yogaraj, will release soon. Actors Jaggesh and Rakshit Shetty essay prominent roles in the film. “I am a big fan of Jaggesh and have been following his work for years and among the new breed of actors, Rakshit has been doing really well. Both are not only good actors but also technically brilliant which makes my work easier,” states Yogaraj. He states that the film also has Anant Nag, Sudha Rani, Parul Yadav and newbie Aishani.

In Vaastu Prakara, Yogaraj has explored human emotions with a lot of sensitivity. He says, “People trust astrology so much that they forget reality sometimes. It is important for people to look at the happenings in life rather logically. The movie explores how fascinated people are with vaastu and why this has gained so much strength over the years.”

When asked what it is like working on a Bollywood film, Yogaraj confesses that it’s a huge industry. “A project that takes a year in the Kannada film industry, takes a little over three years in Bollywood. It’s tough to get dates from established actors,” feels Yogaraj.

Another project titled, Prapancha, written by Yogaraj is almost complete and in yet another project, he essays the role of a villain. “I play the character of a wicked philosopher in the film. It’s a different role,” he adds. Yogaraj also informs that he will be working with Ganesh soon. “It’s a love story and I am working with Ganesh after a long time,” he signs off.
