Sudeep Suresh and Deepthi Ramesh scored contrasting wins to emerge under-19 boys and girls champions respectively in the SBI-Bowring Institute State-ranking badminton title here on Tuesday.
While Sudeep had to ward off a stiff resistance from Nikhilshyam Sriram, Deepthi faced no such fight from Archana Pai in their respective final matches.
Having lost the closely-fought opening game, Sudeep staged a fine comeback to register a 21-23, 21-14, 21-8 win to wear the crown.
Deepthi on the other hand scored a confortable 21-17, 21-12 over Archana to clinch the title.
Nikhilshyam somewhat of made up for his loss by winning the under-17 final where he prevailed over Balraj Kalra 21-18, 21-14.
Archana’s bad run, however, continued on the day when she lost a hard-fought under-17 final to Apeksha Nayak, who emerged a 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 winner.
