Ironically, a traffic inspector's son, who was killed in the accident, was involved in the tragic event that occurred around 1.15 am.

The Yelahanka police have identified the deceased as Hemanth Gowda (23), a BBM student and son of airport traffic inspector Kanaka Kumar, Suryanarayana (24) and sub-inspector Laxminarasimhaiah (55) attached to Chikkajala traffic police station. Vishal (24) and Nanje Gowda (24), who were injured, are being treated at a private hospital.

A Swift car packed with “high-profile” students from a reputed city college - Shravan, Noor, Azlam, Hari with Ujwal at the wheel - and a Zen car with Hemanth Gowda, Suryanarayan, Vishal and Nanje Gowda, was racing at full throttle on International Airport Road.

What started as “sports” took an ugly turn as the vehicles neared Kogilu Gate around 1.15 am with each not giving the way for the other.  Zen brushed against Swift near a curve and rammed into the bike, killing rider Lakshminarasimhaiah on the spot and came to a halt after hitting a retaining wall. Hemanth and Suryanarayana were killed on the spot. The five travelling in Swift escaped with minor injuries.

The police said, the youth in the Swift were returning from airport and got involved with the killer car in “confusion.” The police are tight-lipped about the other car. Sources said that they were returning home after partying in a dhaba on Bellary Road. The sources said the traffic police are attempting to hush up the case. They have almost given a clean chit to both the  drivers saying, they were not under the influence of alcohol. A police constable is the complainant, the sources added. Laxminarasimhaiah was returning home after special duty.
