A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her senior citizen neighbour in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar on Friday. The accused is absconding, police said on Saturday.

The girl, a lower kindergarten student, lives with her parents and two younger brothers in Prem Nagar.

Her father told Deccan Herald that she was sexually assaulted by 60-year-old Pandit, who runs a grocery store in the neighbourhood.

A case was registered after her father approached municipal councilor from Pratap Vihar, Ramdayal Mehato.

The alleged incident took place when the girl went to Pandit’s store with her mother around 7 pm.

“My wife had borrowed a shopping bag from Pandit which he had asked to return. My daughter then took the bag back to Pandit’s store,” her father said.

At the store, it is alleged that Pandit forced the girl to stay back for a while.
As she did not return home after some time, her mother asked her three-year-old son to go to the shop.

The boy saw her in the shop and returned home to inform his mother. The girl too returned home soon.

“My wife noticed that she was looking visibly upset on returning home and enquired into the matter. My daughter then narrated her ordeal and revealed that Pandit had touched her inappropriately,” her father added.

Immediately, her mother confronted Pandit on which he confessed and apologised.
She then informed her husband, who works with a private company in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri.

He returned home and decided to approach police on hearing about the girl’s suffering. The family went to the local police post and filed a written complaint.

House locked

Late on Friday, two policemen went to Pandit’s house where he lived with his wife. It was found locked.

A case under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been filed against Pandit with Aman Vihar police station.

“The accused is absconding and raids are being conducted to nab him,” a police officer said.

The girl’s family also claimed that Pandit’s son came to the neighbourhood on Saturday and threatened the family with dire consequences if they went ahead with their complaint.

“He abused and threatened to kill all of us,” her father said.

He further alleged that police are not taking the case seriously and have told him to inform them if Pandit is seen in the neighbourhood.
