To improve attendance of students of higher education, universities and their constituent colleges across the state will now function like schools.

Rajasthan Governor and Chancellor Kalyan Singh has directed all the universities to update the parents with the attendance record of their children in the institution. The order will be applicable to students falling short of attendance.

“A minimum of 75 per cent attendance is compulsory for each student in any university or college in the state. We have received a letter from Governor and Chancellor Kalyan Singh directing us to update parents about the attendance of their kids,” said Bhupendra Singh Shekhawat, public relations officer, University of Rajasthan.

Officials at governor’s home office said the decision was initially targeted at irregularities in the university of health science but later extended to all universities and constituent colleges. Welcoming the decision, office bearers of Rajasthan University Teachers Association said governor is the supreme authority and he has the right to take decisions for proper functioning of the university and improving the standard of education.
