A 30-year-old man was arrested for using obscene language against a woman constable after calling up the police control room on Thursday.

The police have identified the accused as Vinay, a resident of Vaddarahalli in Ramanagara. He was staying along with his mother and was running a provision store.

According to the police, the accused used to call up the police control room regularly and talk senselessly. The police had dismissed him as a person with mental illness. On Thursday night, he called up again and on hearing a woman's voice, he started hurling abuses at the woman constable. Following suggestions by her senior, the victim lodged a complaint at  Cubbon Park police station.

The police collected the call details and tracked down the phone number to Vaddarahalli, from where he was arrested, added police.

A senior police officer said, " He was giving prank calls to the control room frequently and was troubling the police officials, who used to answer the calls. But on Thursday, it was extreme, the victim felt embarrassed because of the manner in which he spoke to her."

"The control room is meant for people to inform when they are in trouble. But these days there are numerous people, who get drunk and call Dial 100 and speak non-sense. Miscreants who indulge in such act will be dealt strictly," he added.

A case has been registered under section 354 and investigation is being taken up.
