JOIN USResidents of Somnathapura village, T Narsipur taluk in the district, will observe a bandh on Monday, owing to the inconvenience caused to them due to the national heritage tag for Channakeshava temple.
With the enactment of Ancient Monuments, Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 2010, works in a radius of 100 metres of the national heritage structure is prohibited and regulated in a radius of 200 metres, outside the prohibited zone.
So, the residents are unable to take up repair works on their houses. Even the school building is in a pathetic condition, said S R Varadaraju, former Zilla Panchayat member.
Even though the villagers have been running from pillar to post, seeking relaxation in regulations since five years, nothing has come of it, he said.
He urged the authorities concerned to initiate appropriate measures to repair the houses and the school building near the temple.
