A large number of BBMP officers, engineers and employees, on Tuesday, staged demonstration at BBMP head office.

Among other demands, one was police action against Kempegowda award winner RTI activist, who had allegedly assaulted Joint Director of Town Planning section Govindaraju recently. They demanded BBMP authorities to strip the activist of his award.

They also demanded that non-KAS officials serving as Joint Commissioner and Additional Commissioner be repatriated to their parent department and those posts filled by KAS or IAS officials.

Suggesting Govindaraju to lodge a police complaint, Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said he would ask the government to amend the Cadre & Recruitment Rules for promotion of officials and employees.

BBMP Officers & Employees Association President Subramanya alleged that Palike office was filled with touts and sought stringent measures to check them.

Following Lakshminarayana’s assurance, the demonstrators called off their indefinite strike and plan to meet on January 6, when Palike council would meet again.

Meanwhile, BBMP council passed a resolution to repatriate non-KAS officers to their parent department.
