Asha, a 24-year-old homemaker, was found hanging at her residence in Vrushabhavathi Nagar on Tuesday.

She was married for five years to Gajendra, an employee at a factory at Peenya and had a four-year-old son. On Monday night, when she was alone at home, her neighbour Manju, a private company employee, is said to have spoken to Asha obscenely. Asha immediately called her brother at Kengeri to inform him about the matter.

Her brother came to Vrushbhavathi Nagar for the night, as Gajendra was away at Gauribidanur on official work, said the police.

Got no response
He left for work on Tuesday morning while Asha’s son was sent to school. In the afternoon, Asha is said to have locked herself up in the house and hung herself from the ceiling.

The incident came to light when her neighbours, who came to the house, knocked on the door but got no response. Worried, they peeped through the window and found Asha hanging. They informed the police, who shifted Asha’s body for post mortem, said the police.

A senior official said that the mother of the deceased, on learning of the previous night’s incident from her son, lodged a police complaint against Manju. A case of abetment of suicide has been registered against the neighbour and he will be questioned on the matter, the official added.
