Rhenus Logistics India, the Indian arm of the 4-billion euro global major Rhenus Group, on Thursday announced the opening of its second warehouse near Chennai, spread across an area of 55,000 sq. ft.

With the opening of this warehouse, Rhenus now has two multi-user facilities totalling 1 lakh sq. ft of warehousing space, near Chennai.

The new warehouse will cater to the chemical sector and boost the industry in Tamil Nadu.

The facility boasts of modern equipment,  besides the in-house warehouse management software 'Rhenus WMS' that takes care of inventory traceability and transactions.

It has capacity for 6,000 Pallet Positions (PP) with scalability option, efficient reach trucks for lifting, and forklifts for floor management. It is equipped to fulfill both Just in Time (JIT) and Milk-run concepts.

The Pollivakkam facility has got clearance and approval from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).

With this, Rhenus is probably one of the few logistics companies in India which has three PCB-approved facilities for storage and operations of chemicals in India.
They are also compliant with the HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) norms.

“In India we have about 11 lakh sq ft of warehousing space, which includes multi-user and customer-specific facilities in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, and Ahmedabad. We plan to add 4-5 lakh sq. ft. of warehousing space every year. We lease the space and invest in mechanisation of operations,” Rhenus India Managing Director Vivek Arya said.

In India Rhenus is a joint venture with the ‘Arya’ Family which has been in the business of Domestic Transport and logistics services for over six decades.

Currently Rhenus Group in India employs close to 1,000 employees across 45 locations in the country and are growing over 50 per cent year on year, the statement said.
