Youth killed in auto-lorry collision

A 19-year-old youth was killed, while two of his friends were injured after a speeding lorry rammed the autorickshaw they were travelling by, near Kasturinagar under KR Puram traffic police limits on Saturday.

Police have identified the deceased as Venky, a resident of Ramamurthynagar. He used to paste film posters on walls for his livelihood. The injured - auto driver Manju and Sunny - are stated to be out of danger.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the auto rolled over for some distance. The driver of the lorry fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle. The police have seized the lorry and registered a case.

Homemaker ends life
A 22-year-old homemaker committed suicide at her residence in Hampinagar under Vijayanagar police limits on Friday.

According to police, the deceased Vedavathi was residing with her husband Praveen, a factory employee, and his parents. Vedavathi was depressed as she could not conceive.

On Friday, at around 11 pm, Vedavathi hung herself from ceiling of her bedroom. The incident came to light when her mother-in-law went to check on her. Praveen immediately shifted his wife to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. The exact cause for her extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
