Krishnadevaraya event to be a cultural gala

These and many more attractions have been lined up as part of celebration of the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Krishnadevaraya, the famous ruler of Vijayanagar empire.

Disclosing this to reporters in Bangalore after chairing the meeting of Krishnadevaraya Coronation Committee, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the celebrations will showcase the rich cultural history of Karnataka between January 27 and 29. The Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of all States would be invited for the events to be held at Hampi. The event has been budgeted at an estimated Rs 15 crore.

Besides local artistes, cultural troupes from France, China and Sri Lanka will perform during the event. In order to ensure that he celebrations were not be confined to Bellary, programmes had been chalked out across all districts, Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy said.

To spread awareness about the Vijayanagar empire, nearly 30,000 school children will be taken on a tour to Hampi. Sound & light shows depicting the empire and the personality of Krishnadevaraya will be organised in all districts, he added.

The Government has decided to celebrate Vivekananda Jayanti on January 12 as the National Youth Day.

As many as 15,000 college students will take part in a programme organised at Kanteerava stadium in Bangalore on this occasion.
