Drink-driving: Man dead, friend critical

A man died some time after crashing his two-wheeler into a footpath in BTM Layout 2nd Stage early on Monday. He was drunk at the time. His friend, who also was drunk and riding pillion, sustained grievous injuries and is battling for life.

Shreyas, 25, a resident of BTM Layout, was riding home after he and colleague, Sathyaprasad, had liquor some time after Sunday midnight. Shreyas, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, could not control the bike and crashed it into a footpath on 29th main road of the neighbourhood. The crash threw the duo off the bike and into the air. They then collapsed, sustaining grievous injuries. Some passersby rushed to their rescue and took them to a private hospital where Shreyas succumbed to the injuries later, the police said. Sathyaprasad remains unconscious and in a critical condition.

The men worked at an Airtel office located opposite the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research. 

Dozy woman loses chain

A thief stole a woman’s gold chain when she was sleeping on a bed close to the window in her home in Mahadevapura on Monday morning.

He snuggled his hand through the window, untied the gold chain from her neck and sneaked out without arousing her out of deep sleep.

The woman, Nagaveni, a resident of Chikkanna Layout in Maheshwarinagar, later told the police she had opened the window as the weather was humid.

 She realised the theft only after waking up in the morning. The chain was worth Rs one lakh, she added.

Woman hangs herself

A 23-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her home in Basaveshwarnagar on Sunday.

Mahalakshmi, who lived at 3rd main road in Kamalanagar, was found dead when her brother returned home at 7 pm. He had found the door locked from inside and gave repeated knocks to draw her attention. But there was no response. He then broke the door open only to find his sister hanging from the ceiling fan. Police said they didn’t find a death note. It’s unclear what drove Mahalakshmi to suicide, they added.

Fake product racket

Two persons were arrested by the CCB police for selling fake spare parts of mobile handsets. The arrested are: Bhavaram, 26, a resident of Matthikere and Leelaram, 20, both natives of Rajasthan. The fake spare parts worth Rs four lakh were recovered by the police.On a tip-off, the police raided Sangeetha Telecom Accessories on Triveni Road in Deewanarapalya and arrested the duo.
