Well played, congrats - greetings fill Twitter on India win

Congratulations poured in on social media as soon as India beat arch rival Pakistan in a World Cup pool match, with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the nation in immediately tweeting their compliments.

A number of other cricketers, political leaders and Bollywood celebrities also took to the micro-blogging site to record their delight as India, which scored 300/7, bowled out Pakistan for 224.

"Congratulations Indian Team on victory in ICC World Cup's first match; wish you continued success in coming matches," President Mukherjee tweeted after the Indian team won the Adelaide encounter.

"Congrats Team India. Well played. We are all very proud of you," the prime minister wrote on his Twitter handle @narendramodi.

"Congratulations to Team India for winning. All the best for coming matches," tweeted Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, an Olympian silver medallist and Arjuna awardee.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the team.

"Whenever possible I follow India's matches. Team India goodie goodie start to World Cup today. Congratulations," Banerjee tweeted after India recorded their sixth straight win over the neighbouring nation in the quadrennial event.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted: "One of the great things about our victory is that the stars were players who had been out of form lately."

A number of cricketers hailed the victory.

V.V.S. Laxman posted: "Congrats Team India.Clinical performance.Good to see the way the bowlers bowled today. Lots of positives #INDvPAK #CWC2015", while Harbhajan Singh tweeted: "Well done boys.Gr8 win 2dy against Pakistan! Keep it up guys.well played @imVkohli @ImRaina and shikar super bowling #shami#keep the flag high"

Yuvraj Singh said: "Well done boys ! @imVkohli bigger the occasion bigger the performance ! Happy for Jatt ji @SDhawan25" and Zaheer Khan: "WELL DONE #TeamIndia !! Kick starting World Cup campaign with a huge win and maintaining winning record against Pakistan in World Cup."

Bollywood stars, including Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn also rejoiced on India wining over Pakistan.

Lata tweeted: "Hamari Bhartiya Cricket team ko is jeet ke liye  meri taraf se bohot bohot badhaai (I congratulate Team India for its victory)".

Amitabh said: "YEEEAAAAHHHHH! India wins ... my second prediction came true too ... is it got something to do with the date 15th Feb!  15th Feb! historic date for me ... on this date 46 years ago in 1969, I signed my 1st film to join the Film Industry. Well played INDIA ... entire team showed  resolve, talent and determination! May you continue such onwards ...JAI  HIND!"
