Makers of the film felt Akshay, who is known for his comedy as much as he is for his action packed roles, is apt to play a witty common man, on the lines of R K Laxman's famous character.

"'Khatta Meetha' is a satire based on the road-mafia active in Bihar and parts of UP. Based on a true incident, this film unveils the chagrin of the common man through Akshay's character," said a sources close to the actor.

Akshay, who will be producing the film under his banner Hari Om Productions, has a slew of releases lined up this year including 'Khatta Meetha', Sajid Nadiawala’s 'Houseful', Nikhil Advani's 'Patiala House' and Farah Khan’s 'Tees Maar Khan'.
