According to a press release, Markala has been working in the Police Department for seven years. A native of Jambur, near Saibrakatte village in Udupi district, he is the third son of Lakshman and Girija Markala. He has secured first rank in the BEd examination conducted by Karnatak University and won four gold medals and a special scholarship. Taking these achievements into account, the Union Government has extended special invitation to Markala.
