To ensure safety of pedestrian on the Outer Ring Roads in the City, the Bangalore Development Authority ( BDA) will be building a total of 25 skywalks.

The skywalks will come up at Outer Ring Road (ORR) junctions in a phased manner. One of the proposed skywalks will be built near Manyata Tech Park on Hebbal ORR, for which the tender has already been floated by the BDA.  Engineer Member, BDA, P N Nayak told Deccan Herald on Monday: “The tender was floated a month ago for the construction of skywalk at Manyata Tech Park. The project will be implemented under private public partnership ( PPP) model. The estimates are yet to be worked out."

Traffic jams

Meanwhile, Manyata Tech Park and surrounding areas witnessed traffic jams on Monday morning due to the protest by members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike. They held a protest  demanding for pedestrian safety in the wake of recent accident at Esteem Mall Junction.

Road blocked

The protesters blocked the road near Manyata Tech Park and demanded the State government to construct a skywalk at the earliest. Motorists had a tough time as the road was blocked for more than one and a half hour.

There was slow-moving traffic and chaos on Hebbal Outer Ring Road.  Besides, vehicles plying towards Bytarayanpura, Kempapura, Kodigehalli, Ramamurthy Nagar, Kalyan Nagar and surrounding areas were stuck in traffic jams. The protesters also took out march from Nagawara bus stand to Manyata Tech Park.

President of Vedike, Praveen Kumar Shetty said: “More than 20,000 vehicles ply near the Tech Park every day. Due to the heavy traffic density, people struggle to cross the road. Accident at Esteem Mall Junction should not repeat and for this the government has to take measures ensuring pedestrian safety.”
