'Self-reliance must for a society of equality'

Principal District and Sessions Judge Master RKGMM Mahaswamiji opined that a society of equality can be formed by self reliant women.

He was speaking at an International Women’s Day programme organised by district legal services authority, Bar Association and Kodagu District Judiciary Department Employees Association held on Madikeri district court premises on Monday.

The judge said women have equal status in the society as the men and they have to be aware of their rights. Women should join hands in building a society with equality, which helps in the development of the country. The potential in women should be utilised towards the nation’s progress, he added.

First Additional district and sessions judge Gokhale Ghalappa felt for a need of change in the mentality towards women. It is unfortunate that widows are ill treated in society even to this day, he lamented.


Bar association President C T Joseph said that women in the family should not be discriminated against men. When women are respected in families, they are also respected in the society, he added.

Advocate Meenakumari, Civil Judge B T Annapoorneshwari also spoke. District legal services authority Member Secretary T C Shrikanth, Public Prosecutor Firoz Khan and others were present.
