Aam Aadmi Party senior leader Anjali Damania, who quit the Arvind Kejriwal-led political outfit, was the face of the party in Maharashtra and had taken on several senior politicians.

BJP’s Nitin Gadkari, currently the Union Shipping and Transport Minister, NCP leaders like former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, former energy minister Sunil Tatkare and former public works minister Chaggan Bhujbal were on her radar.

She had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Nagpur against Gadkari.
On September 27, 2012, Anjali shot to fame when she said that Gadkari, the then BJP president, had “business relations” with NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, who was the then Union agriculture minister.

She also targeted Bhujbal for corruption in awarding contracts of the public works department and even pleaded for a special investigation team probe.

She was also instrumental in roping in Vijay Pandhare, former chief engineer of Water Resources Department who had spoken about the politician-bureaucrat-contractor nexus which resulted in irrigation scams in a systematic manner.

Pawar had held the irrigation portfolio – which was later rechristened Water Resources department and then it was held by Tatkare. Both had at different points of time held the energy portfolio as well.
