RSS urges govt to ensure education in mother tongue

Last Updated 16 March 2015, 20:12 IST

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday urged the Centre and state governments to ensure that education is imparted in mother tongue of the student or constitutionally-recognised languages while seeking introduction of yoga as part of curriculum.

The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision-making body of the RSS, also urged the government to ensure that the principle of “one temple, one well and one crematorium” be followed by Hindus across the country.

“The resolutions to this effect were passed at the just-concluded three-day conclave of RSS at Nagpur,” Mukesh Malkan, RSS Prant Sanghchalak for Gujarat, told mediapersons on Monday.

“I appeal to all the karyakars (volunteers) to work for an equitable Hindu samaj. We have done a lot of good work and come a long way and must continue to work to end any inappropriateness in the Hindu society, if any,” he said.

The move by the RSS is seen as a step to reach out and bring under its fold those who generally perceive it to be dominated by upper caste Brahmins. The RSS has already seen a 25 per cent increase in its organisational reach since 2012. As of today, it has 51,330 shakhas operating at 33,222 places, up by 10,413 shakhas in the last two years. “This is a major step forward for RSS,” Malkan told mediapersons.

In a resolution passed in the three-day meet, the RSS urged Union and state governments to impart education in mother tongue or in any constitutionally-recognised state language and simultaneously take initiative for use of Indian languages in education, administration and delivery of justice. It, however, said that it was not opposed to learning any foreign language.

“The child is most comfortable in mother tongue and it is the language it understands best, as compared to any foreign language. And for natural learning and proper understanding of our culture, the education, particularly at the elementary level, should be either in mother tongue or any language recognised in our Constitution,” Malkan said.
