Raghu Mukherjee has great things coming his way this Ugadi. He plays a boy-next-door in ‘Male Baruva Munna’ and is keeping away from the gym to sport an inconspicuous look. “The character is that of an ordinary guy and the director was keen that I appear as natural as possible,” says Raghu who has almost completed the project.

The story deals with how people handle their past. He points out that everybody has a past which they would either want to remember or not recall at all. “Is the past worth carrying forward? Is it logical to get stuck in the past? These are just some of the questions that are raised in the story,” says Raghu. The director put things rather subtly in the story, says Raghu.

It’s the originality of the script, written by Ratnaja, that caught his attention. “It is a well-researched and straight-from-the-heart story. The character that I play is presented in a very strong way. It’s how an unassuming guy goes on to make a huge difference,” he states.

He feels there are several portions in the script that delve into the basic things in life such as sacrifice, ego clashes and how even if one doesn’t want to interfere in another’s person’s affairs, one may have to do so just to set things in place. “The script is thoroughly engrossing and there’s a sense of anticipation at every step. Most of the love stories have the hero being beaten up but here although the central theme remains love, the story has been narrated in a different way,” feels Raghu.

Raghu says he has always been a director’s actor and likes to be moulded according to the director’s wish. “Ratnaja is pretty sure about what he’s looking for and knows exactly what he wants. He tells you when to pause and how to modulate. He has focussed on the smallest of details and is working towards getting it perfect,” reasons Raghu, who confesses that he enjoyed working on this script.

The film has been shot in some of the most exotic locations such as the backwaters of Kerala and the dense forest near Chikkamagaluru. “Ratnaja has spent a lot of time searching for the perfect location that would suit the script,” he adds. Raghu also came down with a back injury when shooting a fight sequence. “I was shooting for an action scene when suddenly I slipped off a rock and hurt my back.

We took a break but I managed to snap out of it earlier than I thought I would,” he adds. The actor is ready to start dubbing for the film. “I am particular that I dub for all my films,” he sums up.
