Six people hailing from the town have been stranded in war-torn Yemen.

Younus Shabandri, his wife Quanita, their daughters Inas, three, and Lamia, four, son Ahmed, five, and Mohammed Shaik Ruknuddin, from Azadnagar in the town are stranded in Sana’a and Aden cities in the Southwest Asian country. Yemen is under an aerial attack by Saudi Arabia, targeting rebels.

They had been to Yemen a couple of years ago in search of jobs. They were supposed to return to Bhatkal shortly, Younus’ father Shah Jahan Shabandri told Deccan Herald. Shah Jahan said that people are unable to come out of their houses in Aden due to the airstrikes.

It is said that Shaik Ruknuddin has not eaten or slept properly in the last four days. Shaik’s father Shabbir said that the Indian government should take immediate steps to evacuate the country’s citizens stranded in the war-torn nation.
