A 32-year-old bank manager committed suicide by shooting himself in the head inside a temple in south-east Delhi’s Kalkaji on Sunday. He also offered prayers in the temple before taking the extreme step, police said.

The deceased has been identified Desraj Singh, who lived with wife Kulpreet Kaur and two children in Kalkaji Extension Pocket-C, and worked with a bank in Haryana’s Faridabad district.

Police recovered a suicide note where Desraj mentioned that he had a loan of Rs 3 lakh. The incident happened at 10.30 pm at Shiv Temple in Kalkaji Pocket-14. “The suicide was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the temple. Desraj offered prayers and then took out a pistol. He shot himself in his right temple,” said a police officer.

Desraj was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead. A police team inspected the spot and recovered a country-made pistol. In the suicide note, Desraj said he had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from several people. ‘Was under depression’He said he was under depression due to frequent arguments between his wife and his mother. Deshraj requested his father Dara Singh to repay the debt.

Dara Singh has a business of generators in Kalkaji. During initial probe, police questioned Desraj's family and said he was not in any financial trouble.  “His family has been involved in business for several decades and he himself was earning well,” said the officer.  Desraj, however, wrote in the suicide note that he did not blame anyone for the decision to end his life.

Investigating officers also analysed call data records of Desraj’s mobile phone. His family members told police that he regularly went to the Shiv Temple. They denied being aware of Desraj procuring the country-made pistol.
