Eight-hour shift system in police stations demanded

Citizen-centric initiatives introduced

In a power point presentation of the department’s performance all over the State during the past three years at a two-day annual senior officers’ meet here at the police head quarters, Dr Singh said the demands include promotion to head constables, ASIs and PSIs, eight-hour shift system for police station, remuneration for working of week off days from Rs 50 to 100, accelerated housing scheme, filling up of drivers’ posts and staff for citizen-centric beat system, he added.

He thanked the government for authorising the DG & IGP to permit police officers to travel by air on urgent investigation and enhancement of grants to police benevolent fund from Rs 50 lakh to one crore from next financial year.

He said that the department had initiated citizen-centric initiatives in 2009 such as displaying of boards showing telephone number of police officers in front of police stations, setting up of  special desk in all DPOs to receive complaints which are refused in police stations, returning of property, introducing new beat system and developing contact with community leaders.

Awards

The CM distributed Rs 20,000 cash award, a shield and a citation to various officers for their initiatives. Raichur district SP TR Suresh Kumar bagged the award fo best innovative methods for prevention and detection of crime, South Canara district SP Dr
Subrahamneshwar Rao for best innovative methods for maintenance of law and order and community harmony, Gadag district SP D Prakash for ensuring better performance by officers, Davangere district SP Sandeep Patil for best innovative methods in ensuring better relations with the public, Tumkur district SP Dr PS Harsha for best innovative welfare measures, Mysore City DCP (crime) Rajendra Prasad for  best innovative methods for prevention and detection of crime (Commissariat limits), Central Division, Bangalore City, Dr G Ramesh for best innovative methods in ensuring better relations with public and  North Division, Bangalore City HS Revanna and DCP (l&O) Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissariat, Chandiram Singh for best innovative methods for maintenance of law and order.
