Raid on hookah centres

In a simultaneous raid on hookah centres in the city, the city crime branch (CCB) police personnel seized 12 smoking pots and pipes and imposed a fine of Rs 5,400 according to COTPA [The Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production Supply and Distribution) Act], 2003.

The police, led by ACP K N Madaiah, raided ‘Cafe Nonsense’ on KD Road, located in Jayalakshmipuram police limits, ‘18+ Cafe’ on Adipampa Road and ‘Flavourz’ on Temple Road in VV Puram police limits.

A fine of Rs 1,000 each has been imposed on the cafe owners, while two workers were asked to cough up a fine of Rs 100 each.

A total of 10 customers were also dealt under law, by imposing  a fine of Rs 200 on each, totalling Rs 5,400.
