In order to address various hurdles faced by the residents of the city during rainfall, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to constitute a rapid action force, similar to ‘Dhanush’ an exclusive force for emergency services that existed earlier in the civic body.

Participating in a meeting convened by Krishnaraja MLA M K Somashekar, to discuss the rain related grievances following the heavy rainfall witnessed in the city in the p ast four days, MCC Commissioner, C G Betsurmath said that the pre-monsoon showers in the region, during the month of April and May, results in several problems. “In the existing set up, the MCC personnel are restricted to clearing trees and its branches that fall during rains and water that enters low-lying areas. In order to address the problems more efficiently, separate force is being constituted,” he said.

He said that the tender process for the same was initiated on Monday. It will be a six member force, in three teams each, working in two shifts.

During the meeting, Somashekar expressed his dissatisfaction over the officials in responding to the complaints of the public. Taking cognisance of recurring complaints over poor roads, the MLA the officials to take up repair works of the same. “During rainfall, MCC, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cescorp) Limited and Forest department should work in tandem,” he said.

Somashekar said that even though Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was ready to provide funds for the development of Mysuru, the slow pace of works in the city has come as a hurdle. “The Chief Minister has raised the issue several times in the past. I would file a complaint against officials who are not efficient in discharging their duties” warned Somashekar.

Water shortage
Somashekar said that 270 MLD of water was being supplied to the city regularly, even during summer.

However, it is surprising that despite a steady supply of water, several localities in the city suffer from water scarcity. Officials should address the issue and ensure that all parts of the city are supplied adequate water,” he added.
