A man was stabbed when he tried to intervene in a quarrel between his friends and another group in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri in the small hours of Monday.

Dinesh Ahilwal, was stabbed four times in the buttocks and is admitted at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, police said.

The four suspects, two of whom known to the victim, are absconding.

The assault took place near the office of Rakhi Birla, the Aam Aadmi Party legislator from the area.

Birla’s office, however, was shut during the assault which took place around 1 am.
Dinesh, a cab driver, lives in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

He was on a visit to his friend Pankaj’s house in Mangolpuri to celebrate his daughter’s birthday on Sunday night.

When he reached the house, Pankaj told him about how four men had barged into his home and warned him of dire consequences only hours ago. Pankaj was involved in a monetary dispute with some men.

Once the birthday celebrations ended, Dinesh offered to mediate between Pankaj and those men.

They headed to Nanda’s home, a few blocks away.

As they neared Rakhi Birla’s office, they found the men standing on the roadside. The four allegedly launched a verbal assault on Pankaj as soon as they noticed him.

“I requested those men to stop the abuses upon which they threatened to teach me a lesson. Two of them pulled out knives and repeatedly stabbed me. I fainted on the spot,” Dinesh told police.

Pankaj began shouting out for help which made the assailants flee. Police were informed and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Police have registered a case based on Dinesh’s statement. Two suspects have been identified as Nanda and Bobby. Two others remain unidentified.
