The chairperson of the Karnataka State Sanitation Workers' Commission Narayana on Wednesday urged BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik to ensure that the Pourakarmikas (sanitation workers) get benefits of all the schemes for them.

After a meeting with BBMP officials, Narayana said the Pourakarmikas are entitled for the ESI and smart card, which should be provided soon.

“The Pourakarmikas, who work in an unhygienic condition, can avail medical benefits up to Rs 15 lakh if they fall sick. The BBMP should provide them with ESI and smart cards,” said Narayana.

Narayana directed the Palike to ensure that each Pourakarmika gets a weekly off and they should get minimum wage as fixed by the State government. Pourakarmikas on contract should get identity cards and the Palike should ensure that they get the benefits of ESI, PF and other government schemes, said Narayana.

The BBMP Commissioner told Narayana that the Palike is serious about providing all benefits to the Pourakarmikas.
