Last Updated 15 June 2015, 19:24 IST

Effecting the third hike since May, public sector oil companies on Monday increased petrol prices by 64 paise a litre but diesel prices were cut by Rs 1.35.

The new rates will be effective from Monday-Tuesday midnight.

Petrol will now cost Rs 66.93 per litre in Delhi, up from the earlier rate of Rs 66.29, while diesel will cost Rs 50.93, down from the earlier Rs 52.28.

Prices of petrol and diesel were last revised on May 16.

“Since the last price change, there has been an increase in international prices of petrol while international prices of diesel have shown a downward trend. The rupee-dollar exchange rate has depreciated during this period. Combined impact of these factors warrant an upward revision in prices of petrol and a downward revision in prices of diesel, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price change,” Indian Oil Corporation stated.

After the price revision, petrol will cost Rs 74.42 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 74.78 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 70.12 per litre in Chennai.

Diesel will now cost Rs 55.45 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 58.37 in Mumbai, while in Chennai it will cost Rs 54.29.
