“There was a pile up of traffic along the elevated highway. A private bus hit a welcome board on the highway leading to a jam,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Praveen Sood.
Motorists were seen parking their vehicles atop the elevated highway and peering down, triggering blockades on the tollway.
Commuters confused
Many motorists were left wondering where to get off the elevated stretch.
“Commuters were not aware of the fact that once they get on the highway, they could only get off at Electronic City. People were making round trips trying to get off the highway leading to confusion,” added Praveen Sood.
Commuters who were trying to get on the highway and make their way to Attibele from Silk Board Junction, only to find out that they had to go all the way to Electronic City and make their way back.
Praveen Sood said the problems will die down over the next few days once the commuters settle down.
Working overtime due to a massive procession on Adugodi road and also the flower show in Lalbagh, the City police had a torrid time in regulating the traffic towards the evening.
Vehicle movement on the highway was stopped for nearly 45 minutes and was resumed at 7 pm.
“We should ensure that traffic which has grown by 300 per cent on day one be regulated once the toll rates come into effect,” hoped Sood.
Toll fee
Meanwhile, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said the toll fee collection will begin after a couple of weeks, once the toll gates are setup and fee collection process is put in place.
