Former minister Basavaraj Bommai told Congress leaders not to carry false propaganda against the proposed Land Acquisition Act, to be implemented by the Centre. The matter is to be discussed in the Assembly and in Parliament, BJP leaders will give proper reply, he said.

He was speaking during an interaction on land acquisition act, organised by Raitha Morcha, at district BJP office in Chikkamagaluru on Friday.

It is necessary to keep the truth in front of the people, about the proposed act. The Central government only intends to rise the level of people’s livelihood, he said.

Bommai alleged that the former UPA government had been against the development of the nation. The previous government had put the rights of people at stake, owing to vote bank politics, he said.

He said it was the previous union government which batted for the special economic zone. During its tenure, the lands of farmers were purchased at a very low rate and were handed over to industries, that too, without the permission of the farmers.

The present Central government is planning for the implementation of new rural economy credit system. Also, the proposed land acquisition act is in the favour of farmers. The people who criticise the act, lack farsightedness, he said.

He accused that announcements of the State government are limited to the budget and have not been realised. Agricultural activities have been paused in the state. The farmers have no confidence left in them. The existence of the state government has remained doubtful.

MLA C T Ravi said it was the land acquisition act of 2013, which was anti-farmer. The farmers were paid a petty amount on their lands. Realising this, the present central government has decided to introduce an ammendment. This will ensures the farmers with good price for their lands, along with jobs.
