The State Congress has decided to make use of the upcoming elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to raise funds for construction of its multi-storey office on Queen’s Road.

The party has made it mandatory for those applying for tickets to contest the polls to pay Rs 10,000 each towards the building fund. Women and SC and ST aspirants will have to pay Rs 5,000 each.

The KPCC started distributing application forms on Friday at its main office on Queen’s Road. July 2 is the last date for submitting the applications. Elections to the BBMP are scheduled for July 28.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) led by G Parameshwara has taken up construction of a multi-storey office building next to its main office on Queen’s Road.

The building is estimated to cost Rs 10 crore. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the building a few months ago.

KPCC general secretary N S Boseraju said that all political parties collected building funds from candidates who aspired to contest elections. In the Congress’ case, aspirants should submit their complete biodata with details on services rendered to the party, besides furnishing a document to prove they are members of the party, he added.

Boseraju further said that the Congress would soon set up an election committee to scrutinise the applications and finalise names of the candidates. Parameshwara will head the committee, he added.
