A year of dedication

The Rotary Club of Bangalore turned 80 this year. The oldest club in the City, the members have been contributing their might for the society, in the last one year.

Spearheading the group in all these successful ventures is the president of Rotary Club of Bangalore, Ramkumarr Seshu. Seshu took over as the president of the club on July 1, 2014 and his term will end on June 30, 2015.

Looking back, Seshu says that it has indeed been a fascinating and rewarding year. He dubs his term as president as a learning experience while adding that he wouldn’t have been able to achieve success without the team of brilliant people who gave their time and effort. for all the projects.

“We turned 80 this year and being the 80th president of the club is not only prestigious but comes with a lot of responsibility. It has been our mission to work towards fighting and eradicating polio and supporting the girl child in whatever way possible,” he explains.

Some of the prestigious projects of the club, he says, are the teaching projects, which include e-learning, adult and child learning and the ‘Happy School’ project.

“The ‘Happy School’ project aims at ensuring that every child is happy to go to school. Toilets, benches, a library and playground are provided under this project. We have also built four schools in Malur taluk near Hosakote. The first of the four schools at Yeshwanthapur in Malur is ready,” he says.

He points out that the club has also proposed the construction of five toilet blocks, especially for the girl child, in government schools in different locations in the City.

“We find the maximum dropouts among the girls because they don’t have the basic facilities in school and clean toilets top the list,” he says.

He adds that the blood bank that is jointly run by the Rotary Club of Bangalore and TTK is among the best in the country.

“In an effort to save electricity and harness the natural source of power, we have energised 16 hostels in a joint project along with Menda Foundation in Ramanagara. This will not only ensure security to the student but provide them a conducive atmosphere to study.”

He says that the greatest challenge as the president of the club has been identifying  people in real need and helping them.
